Teen Talk
Dear Parent/Guardian(s),
Teens today are dealing with things most of us never would’ve imagined at a frequency and intensity that is mind boggling for many adults. Between home, school, and social media, teens are inundated with messages about who they should be, how they should act, and why they aren’t good enough. Statistics tell us that 20% of adolescents experience a mental health disorder each year, 31% experience an anxiety disorder at some point, 59% have experienced cyberbullying, and more than 60% have experienced a traumatic event. It’s no wonder you’ve been struggling with trying to help them and you feel like you’re running on fumes.
I can help your 15-17 year old(s). I have 15 years of experience working with teenagers through high schools, inpatient and outpatient treatment programs, and mobile crisis. Whether your teen is learning how to cope with the divorce of their parents, displaying unsafe behaviors, or trying to assert their autonomy, I’d like to support you both.
How Therapy can Help
Early intervention can reduce the severity of mental health disorders and improve long-term outcomes.
Therapy helps teens develop healthy coping mechanisms and prevent crises like self-harm or suicide.
Addressing emotional and behavioral challenges early can lead to better academic performance, relationships, and overall well-being.
What to Expect
I like to take a collaborative approach to helping parent/guardian(s) help their precious teenager(s) become incredible, self-confident, healthy young adults who are capable of taking care of themselves and advocating for their needs.
Initial Session - Parent/Guardian(s), teen, and I will discuss why you’re seeking therapy and what you hope to get out of it.
Sessions 2-4 - Teen and I meet without parent/guardian(s). Parent may be invited to join the end of the session as necessary.
Session 5 - Parent/Guardian(s), teen, and I will discuss progress and next steps.
That cycle will continue for the duration of the therapeutic relationship. Have questions? Let’s chat.
